To prepare for our second class:
1. Order your copy of the text!
2. Read Sutra 1 (pg 23-49) from The Splendor of Recognition.
3. Experiment with the exercise that Swami Shantananda describes on page 46: Is my consciousness in this space, or is this space in my consciousness? Find a time and place where you can be alone and quiet for at least 10-15 minutes, and follow the instructions that he gives. If possible, practice this at least 2-3 times. Journal about what you experience, describing how you would answer the questions that Swami-ji poses.
Please note: There is no right or wrong answer. This exercise is an inner asana, designed to disrupt and expand beyond habitual patterns of thought. As with all asana practice, we will benefit far more from prolonged gentle and inquisitive exploration than we would from a single goal-oriented push toward mastery.
