To prepare for our class on April 17th:
For everyone:
- Read Swamiji’s commentary on Sutra 9
- Read this excerpt from “A GOLDEN MIND, A GOLDEN LIFE”: In this talk given on new year’s day in 1999, Swami Chidvilasananda speaks on the yogic discipline of a pure mind.
- Experiential assignment: Do the exercise that Swamiji describes on pg 199. Open your mind and heart to the wisdom of the saint that you already are!
Response paper:
Choose one sutra from sutras 3, 4, 0r 9. Write a 1-2 page paper that includes the following:
- The sutra written out in English
- Describe in your own words your understanding of this sutra without quoting Swami-ji’s commentary.
- End your paper with one short paragraph that describes how you might apply the teaching in this sutra in your daily life.
Paper for the Sanskrit track:
Choose one sutra from sutras 2-9 that you haven’t already written on. Write a 1-2 page paper that includes the following:
- The sutra written out in Devanagari
- A definition of each word in the sutra
- Choose one Sanskrit term in this sutra. Write about the way this term is used in the philosophical system of Kashmir Shaivism.
