As twenty-first century Americans, we live in the most highly traveled culture in human history. But how deeply do we experience the places that we visit? How can we enrich our future journeys? How do we transform a trip into an Odyssey?
Whether we are off to a faraway land or just heading back home for Christmas, travel can become a process of discovery, inspiration, and transformation. In this class, we will read the accounts of experienced travelers, explore traditions of pilgrimage and walkabout, and draw on the experience of the class and the instructor to empower ourselves as skillful travelers. Lectures and discussions will be supplemented by online readings, slideshows, and presentations by class participants.
