Somewhere Over the Rainbow

The most powerful influence on this sermon was the October 2012 salmon run, as experienced by the author on the banks of the rivers that were once the home of the Whilkut, Yurok, and Karuk tribes. May you too be blessed to witness the salmon return to the waters of their birth.

Other influences include the following tiny sampling from the voluminous writings on this topic:

  • The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, L. Frank Baum
  • The Wizard of Us, Jean Houston
  • Home! A Bioregional Reader
  • Totem Salmon, Freeman House
  • Two Peoples, One Place, Ray Raphael and Freeman House
  • Becoming Native to This Place, Wes Jackson
  • Wisdom Sits in Places, Keith Basso
  • “The Place, the Region, and the Commons”, The Practice of the Wild, Gary Snyder
