Introduction to Sanskrit

In this four-session class students will receive a basic introduction to the Sanskrit language. Topics in this engaging and inspirational class will include:

• An overview of the history of the languages of India
• Instruction in the role of language and mantra in Hinduism and Vedic religion
• An introduction to the characters of the Devanagari script
• Pronunciation practice through the recitation of scriptural texts
• An introduction to the challenges of translation
• Resources for further exploration and study
